Weekly poll wrap-up

Last week’s poll question was “what do you think of Obama’s choice for VP?”

55 percent of those voting said, “Excellent! Biden’s my guy!” 29 percent said “Not my 1st choice, but not too shabby.” 5 percent said “I’ll hold my nose and pretend not to hate it.”

1 percent believed “It’s not Hillary so now I’m voting Libertarian,” and 7 percent of those voting said “Hate it – how the hell do I get my cell number off Obama’s list now?”

People. Really. A cumulative 8 percent of you are seriously thinking of not voting for Obama now? Do you not remember the razor-thin margins in the Gore-Bush race in 2000, and how much the outcome, plus the US Supreme Court ruling creating the outcome, has cost us?

Our Civil liberties gone. Check.

Our strong economy gone. Check.

Our place as a world leader with moral authority squandered. Check.

Countless lives, both American and otherwise, lost or ruined in a pointless war. Check.

So you seriously still believe this is about Hillary? Even Hillary doesn’t believe it’s about Hillary anymore. If you supported either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama in the primary, it must have meant that you were sick of the last 8 years. But if you’re sick of the last 8 years, if John McCain is elected you won’t be too crazy about the next 4 years either. Letting the perfect get in the way of the achievable is not a good plan. Jus’ sayin’.

This week’s poll is on top of the right hand sidebar. Vote there, and comment on it here.

Happy Birthday Molly

Today is Molly Ivins’ birthday and I sure do miss her. But since she wouldn’t want anybody to make a big deal, instead I’ll just post the most ridiculous picture of her that I own.

And no, I’m not telling you who I cropped out or what they were wearing. Nor will I tell you how much we were drinking at the time and how unlikely it was that I could have held the camera still long enough to shoot this picture. We have strict policies about such things at Letters from Texas Worldwide HQ.

FUBAR-Cam Update

I can’t imagine ever attending a more important or inspiring political event than last night. And I can’t imagine having a more inspiring week than this one.

FUBAR-Cam Update

Of course the surprise of the night was the appearance of Obama. It was a well-kept secret, even from the backstage and podium staff and certainly peons like me. Here’s Obama as he stepped off the podium into the somewhat scary corridors of the backstage area.

(I told y’all you’d get the good stuff from FUBAR-Cam!)

Believe it or not, I am on the actual podium of the convention as I post this. Security!

Headline of the week so far

Of course this story wouldn’t even be newsworthy in most markets, except for the irrepressible urge of the headline writer to slip one in under the radar.

You know, this convention doesn’t have to be ALL about conventions. It’s gorgeous here.

Apparently, there’s something to this heart transplant thing – he’s still going strong, and is still the life of the party!
