The Barton Springs Road Hall Monitor

Well well well. What have we here?

Turns out that a member of Austin's Live Music Task Force, Scott Trainer, is the guy who called the cops on Shady Grove Restaurant and turned 'em in for violating Austin's stupid noise ordinance, as Shady Grove's weekly Thursday "Unplugged" concert got underway last week. We know this thanks to the Austin American-Fishwrapper story, which also has the audio of Trainer's 911 call to police.

I have a question for Mr. Trainer.

Where is it that you live, and did you move in before, or after, the Barton Springs Road scene became an Austin music mecca? Because if you moved in after, you remind me of one of those people who moves somewhere because it's cool, then do your very best to suck the cool right out of the place. Moving to Barton Springs Road and expecting peace and quiet is like Captain Renault walking into Rick's in Casablanca, then professing his shock...SHOCK...that there is gambling going on in this establishment.

So, really - I'd like to know...did you get yourself appointed to the Live Music Task Force to promote Austin's live music scene? Or were you just representing neighborhoods in order to protect the Barton Springs Road area from the very essence of Barton Springs Road?

Also, I'd like to know why you don't live in Round Rock.

I heard that he's lived there for over 20 years... back before all these long-haired hippies started playin' their rock n roll and hippity hop crap.

Mr. Trainer was one of the only members of the Task Force that didn't vote for all of the recommendations and I think didn't attend the last few meetings in protest.

In response to your recent open letter, I am submitting the following information regarding a person named SCOTT TRAINER.

There is a person named Scott Trainer whom is a MEMBER of the City of Austin’s “AUSTIN LIVE MUSIC TASK FORCE” and is listed of the Task Force roster as a NEIGHBORHOOD REPRESENTATIVE.

The WEB White pages has a listing for a Scott Trainer. The WEB White Pages show his address as 1612 Meghan Lane, Austin, TX 78704. That location is actually located up on the hill just south of the Shady Grove.

If you are still curious as to when Mr. Trainer moved into the Meghan property, you can have a local Real Estate person find when that property was purchased/occupied by Mr. Trainer.

Keep up the great work! Your observations provide much need visibility to many people in Austin.

Best Regards

I believe certain Austin bile-throwers were very clear on the fact that the ordinance had nothing to do with condos or Californians, but in fact was being pushed by single-family homeowners up the hill in Zilker.

Trainer's stock and trade is in commercial real estate. That's certainly not among the credentials I would be looking for when appointing a neighborhood representative to an influerntial task force. Is he a Morrison appointee?

One of my contacts indicated he was a consensus appointee of sorts; but that's not the only way to connect the dots.

Mr. Trainer bought his place and built his house in 1993 per the TCAD website. Not that is relevant to anything.
