Read more...So, I'm sitting around Sunday night, watching "World's Deadliest Catch" (ironically) and minding my own business (also ironically), when word leaked out that Osama bin Laden is dead. The US has been chasing that guy around for so long, I didn't even remember what it felt like to not be chasing him around. Apparently other Americans felt the same way, and as the dark cloud they weren't even aware of lifted, thousands started gathering at the White House gates in D.C., and at Ground Zero in New York, singing (badly) and celebrating the grizzly death of a mass murderer.
I'm guessing that the 2012 Republicans Presidential hopefuls are feeling silly long about now, as well they should. I kept waiting for President Obama, at the end of his address to the nation, to say something about "so anybody else want to see my birth certificate, a-holes?"
America was happy last night, and well they should be, they finally eradicated the cockroach from the kitchen pantry. I do, however, feel sorry for those 72 virgins - their future is grim.
How do I feel? I'm very proud of the President, for not forgetting the pain and the loss of the countless Americans who lost something in the 9-11 attacks, especially the loved ones of those killed on the airline flights, at the World Trade Center, and at the Pentagon. I'm also very proud of those who take the personal risks for us world-wide, on somebody else's order, whether they personally agree or not. It's a bit disconcerting that it turns out the guy has been chillaxin' in a McMansion in the suburbs, instead of hiding deep in a cave eating dead possums as we had been led to believe, but whatever.
Somebody yesterday pointed out a quote from Mark Twain that pretty much sums it up for me:
I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.
